How We're Supported
How We're Supported
The Irving Park Community Food Pantry depends on the continued generosity of individuals, churches, community groups, businesses and grants in order to continue with our mission of helping our neighbors in need. These individuals and groups assist with both monetary and food donations.
Our Board of Directors and volunteers consist of local community and church representatives. Without the manpower that they provide, we would not be able to function.
Where Do We Get Our Food?
Greater Chicago Food Depository
The pantry's primary source of food is purchased from the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Every week we purchase and pick up food and other non-food items from the Greater Chicago Food Depository for our clients. We also participate in the distribution of USDA commodities which is also picked up at the depository.
Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation
Through the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, we are able to receive fresh produce and other items for distribution.
Food Drives and Individual Donations
Throughout the year, local schools, churches and businesses hold food drives for the pantry. Individuals also donate food and non-food items which are dropped off at the pantry.
Businesses
Various businesses donate various items such as poultry, bread, pastries, school supplies and toys to the pantry for distribution.
Sponoring Churches
Since its inception, the Irving Park Community Food Pantry has been supported by sponsoring churches. Many of our volunteers attend these churches. In addition to manpower, the churches hold food drives and provide financial donations.
Grants
Grants from corporations and organizations assist the pantry in various areas such as food purchase, nutrition education, upkeep of pantry truck, community outreach and everyday pantry functions.
